Jessica Beckerman, MD (Co-founder) has worked in Mali since 2004, where she was a Fulbright Scholar. Beckerman has worked previously in West Africa for Tostan and GAIA, and as a Project Manager at Partners in Health. She recently completed her degree in Medicine at the University of California San Francisco, and is now a resident OB/GYN at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Francisco.
Rebekah Emanuel, LLM, MBA (Chair) has worked in Uganda, India, and Israel on improving the quality of care for cancer and AIDS patients at the end of life. As a consultant at McKinsey & Company, she worked on improving the quality of healthcare delivery as well as governance for large public health funders. As a Simon Fellow, she worked to implement one of the first programs for depression screening and treatment for cancer patients in lower income neighborhoods of New Delhi. As a Congressionally-funded Mitchell Scholar, she worked with the Parliament of Uganda on post-conflict resettlement. Emanuel holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Tom Fry, MBA is Managing Director of the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation where he is responsible for identifying and supporting Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation Entrepreneurs and cultivating and engaging donors. Prior to joining Draper Richards Kaplan, Fry was an Associate Partner at New Profit, a high-touch philanthropic funder, where he supported organizations in refining their program and revenue models, adding talent, developing organizational capacity, and scaling their impact. Previously, Fry served as the Director of Operations for Grassroot Soccer and worked for White Mountains Capital, a publicly traded holding company that invests in the financial services sector.
Ethan S. Johnson, MBA is a Managing Director for Ramius, an institutional investment company in New York City. His prior professional experience includes managing mergers and acquisitions, private equity and equity research. Johnson also founded On Your Feet Project, a nonprofit organization engaging young people in community service. He received an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan.
Annie T. Maxwell, MPP is President of the Skoll Global Threats Fund. She joined the organization after serving as a White House Fellow, where she focused on implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. From 2002 to 2009, Maxwell was with Direct Relief International, serving most recently as Chief Operating Officer. From 2005 to 2006, she was seconded to the United Nation’s Office of the Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery, led by Special Envoy President Bill Clinton. Maxwell received her Master’s in Public Policy and BA in English and Political Science from the University of Michigan.
Joia Mukherjee, MD, MPH trained in Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics at the Massachusetts General Hospital and has an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. She is an Associate Professor in the Division of Global Health Equity at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School where she teaches medical students, residents and fellows in the fields of infectious disease, global health and health disparities. Since 2000, Mukherjee has served as the Medical Director of Partners In Health, an international medical charity with clinical programs in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, and Boston.
Aissata Sow Thiam, PhD, holds a doctorate in Biophysics from the University of Technology in Compiegne, France. She has 20+ years of IT management consulting experience, and acts as an advisor to public and private organizations, as well as regional institutions and NGOs. She is currently a partner at Elite International Consulting, where she manages programs related to IT, telecommunications and green business projects.
