Description
Muso is looking for a biostatistician who can design and lead the statistical analysis of research studies conducted by the organization. As a member of the research team, the biostatistician will be responsible for supervising a team of data managers to ensure best practice in data management. They will contribute to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of research studies through their statistical expertise.
Responsibilities
The Biostatistician will be responsible for:
Design and conduct statistical analyses relevant to Muso's research priorities, using primary and secondary data sources.
Contribute to the development of research protocols by providing statistical expertise.
Participate in the selection of the appropriate study design to answer the main research questions.
Participate in the design of data collection instruments, including survey questionnaires, to answer the main research questions.
Participate in the planning and implementation of research, including cluster randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, and interrupted time series analyses of routine health data.
Produce reports describing the statistical methods used and the results of statistical analysis.
Contribute to the interpretation of study results and the writing of scientific reports and publications and participate in oral presentations.
Lead and mentor a team of data managers to ensure best practice in data management and good quality research data.
Lead data managers in the development of standard operating procedures for data collection, verification, correction, if necessary, and management and storage using appropriate data management and statistical analysis software.
To contribute to the development of the statistical skills of the research team, through mentoring.
Required Skills and Experiences
Academic and technical qualifications required
Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field
At least two years experience as a practicing medical statistician
Working on interventional and observational epidemiological studies in low and middle-income settings
Good verbal and written communication skills in English
At least limited working proficiency in French
Key experience / Technical and functional skills
Excellent statistical and mathematical skills
Excellent analytical skills using Stata
Proven ability to write statistical analysis plans, including in English
Demonstrate an understanding of confounding and effect modification in epidemiological studies and knowledge of statistical approaches to deal with these phenomena
Experience in using linear, logistic, and Poisson regression to analyze epidemiological data
High level of precision and attention to detail
Excellent data management skills, with proven experience in designing programs to assure and control the quality of research data automatically.
Ability to communicate results and findings to non-statisticians
Problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently
Excellent organization and time management
Strengths
Experience in conducting time series analysis of routine data from DHIS2
Experience in the analysis of mortality data
Experience in statistical analysis methods of randomized (cluster) trials
Experience in training and capacity building of other researchers in medical statistics

Experience in managing complex or large-scale survey data
Experience in working closely with data managers
Experience in writing database specifications and documentation
Experience in R
Experience using various database management systems, such as SQL and NoSQL.
Experience in the use of database management software such as ODK
