More than five million children die every year and more than half the world’s population lives without access to essential health care. To take on these enormous injustices, Muso is growing rapidly. We aim to reach up to one million patients directly with proactive care, and to improve care for tens of millions of people through changes in global policy and practice. Muso is growing exponentially. We are working to raise $70M over the next three years to care for up to one million patients across two to three countries and improve care for tens of millions of people through changes in global policy and practice.



We seek a motivated, creative self starter to join our team as a Partnerships Associate to support the Major Gifts portfolio. Through back-of-house development support, the Partnerships Associate will help drive and execute a strategy to create new partnerships, expand Muso’s presence in philanthropic communities, and land major gifts from HNWIs (High Net Worth Individuals). They will be responsible for prospect research to identify and scope individuals, philanthropic circles, public and private events, and conferences that will put Muso into new giving communities. They will provide thought partnership on major gift strategy and support the development of new creative donor projects, help generate event ideas and provide planning support, track outcomes of donor engagements, and create and maintain organized internal processes to monitor this revenue stream.



The ideal candidate has a creative mind with the ability to take a big idea and break it down into actionable parts. With the direction of the Major Gifts Officer, the Partnerships Associate will help launch new initiatives, projects and campaigns to ultimately lead to new gift opportunities. In this position, experience in marketing, communications and creative storytelling would be seen as assets, along with the ability to research and track philanthropic trends, and interest in helping expand our presence into new donor communities to support Muso’s overall growth.

Responsabilitées

Prospect Research:


  • Research prospective individuals, philanthropic communities, events and conferences relevant to funding opportunities, providing succinct summaries of research and recommended next steps for the Major Gifts Officer


  • Collaborate with the Major Gifts Officer to identify evidence-based engagement strategies that have a high probability to yield new connections and prospects, and provide project management support to help prioritize next steps


  • Track individual donor outreach and follow-up using donor relationship management software, and leverage this system’s reporting capabilities to monitor partner engagement


  • Utilize and standardize internal systems supporting prospect research, focusing on major gifts processes. Collaborate with peers, including Grants Associates who support other portfolios and revenue streams and a Development Operations Coordinator who supports team systems, in order to align major gifts prospecting systems to team-wide practices and leverage process learning across funding portfolios


New Initiatives:


  • Contribute and collaborate with the Major Gifts Officer to conceive and plan donor focused projects, such as virtual events, in-person events, virtual field tours, etc. that deepen connection, interest and engagement with current and prospective partners


  • Collaborate with the Major Gifts Officer and the Communications team to create targeted content that amplifies Muso’s work and addresses specific donor interests with a primary goal of growing partnerships


  • Support the Major Gifts Officer with back-of-the-house tasks related to donor touch points, e.g. drafting pitches, letters, campaign materials, slide decks, end of the year cards, etc.


  • Support the Major Gifts Officer in identifying evidence-based strategies and approaches to unlocking access into new networks of prospects


  • Monitor the impact of our outreach strategies by establishing performance measurement tools and tracking ROI of the different events and engagements we pursue


General Development Management:


  • Remain up to date with activities across Muso departments, including Research, Programs, Technical Assistance, and Learning & Innovation, to collect relevant content and data for partner reporting and relationship management


  • Monitor organizational compliance against all major gift agreements and/or partner expectations


  • Identify opportunities for grants management process improvement, coordinating with the Development Operations Coordinator to implement creative solutions for managing partnerships with HNWIs


  • Regularly update reference materials which improve application and report development efficiency, such as a boilerplate library

Compétences et Expériences



  • Demonstrated writing experience, preferably in a professional business development or fundraising environment, with excellent written and verbal communications skills that flex to context and audience

  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively across departments, cultures, languages, and time zones

  • Capacity to self-manage time and deliver consistently, with high quality, on deadline

  • Superb attention to detail

  • Flexibility and creativity to adapt in a rapidly-growing team and organization

  • A commitment to social justice, equitable health systems, and imagining radical solutions to global issues

  • Fluency in English

Les +


  • Experience in global health, international development, or non-profit work, with an understanding of key stakeholders and funding landscape

  • Interest in and understanding of how fundraising and partnerships support a global health organization's ability to execute upon ambitious strategic priorities

  • Tech savvy! Able to be the genius support to troubleshoot virtual engagements

  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar relationship management software

  • Proficiency in FrenchExperience working in West Africa
