Muso Announces Christian Rusangwa, M.D., as Next Chief Executive Officer
Muso is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has selected Dr. Christian Rusangwa as Muso’s next Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2027.
Christian joined Muso in 2019 as our inaugural Director of Technical Assistance. Over the past seven years, he has built and grown Muso’s partnerships with the governments of Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, and Zambia, developed our strategy for supporting governments to scale Rapid Care, and built a high-performing team from the ground up.
Through his leadership, Muso has supported and catalyzed national health system reforms while helping mobilize international and domestic financing to enable governments to expand access to rapid, proactive healthcare. Before joining Muso, Christian worked with Partners In Health and the Rwandan Ministry of Health to scale solutions through the public health system.
Throughout his time at Muso, Christian has been a central leader in shaping organizational strategy, strengthening operations, building strong teams, and guiding the organization through a period of significant growth and expanding global impact. As Muso enters a new phase focused on supporting governments to institutionalize and scale Rapid Care strategies, his deep health systems expertise, executive leadership experience, and long-standing government partnerships position him to lead Muso into this next chapter.

At the same time, outgoing CEO Dr. Ari Johnson will transition to the role of Senior Advisor, where he will focus on advocacy, research, and partnerships in support of Muso’s mission of early healthcare for all people.
Christian takes the helm at a pivotal moment for Muso. Three national governments have committed to integrating Rapid Care strategies into national healthcare reforms, creating an extraordinary opportunity to help translate these commitments into lasting systems change and accelerate access to care for more than 20 million people.
