In Q2 2025, Muso’s Healthcare Financing Specialist completed and shared the results of a costing analysis designed to measure changes in the efficiency of implementing our Rapid Care approach. This analysis found that Muso reduced the cost per patient served at our Rapid Care sites from $29 per patient in 2023 to $22 in 2024 - a 23% reduction.

Our progress on efficiency has continued into 2025. These savings are not the result of providing less care, but of delivering care more efficiently. For Q1 2025, the cost per person served at our full scope sites decreased by 25.9% compared to Q1 2024. In Q2 2025, the cost per person served at Muso's full scope sites further decreased by 20.2% compared to Q2 2024.

Much of our efficiency improvements in 2024 were driven by our strategic response to supply chain challenges faced by partner clinics in Côte d’Ivoire. Targeted training programs and tools for pharmacy managers, enhanced district-level medication management, and the establishment of a regional supply depot by the Ministry of Health have all contributed to a significant decrease in medication stockouts.

With improved medication procurement systems, we greatly reduced stockouts, saved money through better bulk purchasing, and ensured uninterrupted access to critical treatments.

In 2025, multiple efficiency initiatives underway pursue improved quality at reduced cost, including: deploying a new digital tool for supply chain management at the community level, rolling out trainings and tools for providers in evidence-based prescribing, internal audits to find and root out attempts at price inflation, and new protocols to streamline procurement and evacuations.

Another important driver in improving efficiencies is that - as part of their commitment to primary health care - the Ivorian government has now taken over 95% of clinician salaries in Muso-supported sites. Historically, these salaries have comprised a large share of Muso operating costs. This shift marks an 88% increase in government cost share with Muso over the past two years.

The resources entrusted to Muso belong to our patients. With every efficiency gain, we extend the impact of each dollar, make it easier for governments to finance care, and move closer to achieving rapid healthcare for all.
