Hawa Kanté Overcomes the Challenges of Motherhood Thanks to Muso’s Vital Support

In Yirimadio, on the outskirts of Bamako, Hawa Kanté was able to experience a peaceful pregnancy despite facing extreme financial hardship. Her journey took a decisive turn thanks to the support of professional Community Health Worker (ProCHW) Fatoumata Guindo and Muso.

It all began during a home visit from ProCHW Fatoumata Guindo, who found Hawa Kanté ill and without means, initially believing she had malaria. But Fatoumata’s diagnosis revealed something else: Hawa was pregnant. Instead of bringing joy, the news filled her with anxiety. 

I didn’t know what I was going to do. My husband wasn’t working, and I was barely earning anything cleaning houses. We were already struggling to feed our children, she recalls, visibly moved. 

In Hawa’s moment of despair, Fatoumata stepped in, with support from Muso. She offered information, guidance, and the promise of free care. 

"Muso committed to supporting me throughout the pregnancy. That’s what reassured me," Hawa said. Thanks to this support, she received free medical care and regular prenatal follow-ups at the Yirimadio Health Center. "I didn’t have to pay for anything. I was able to attend all my check-ups free of charge," she said with relief. 

Hawa gave birth safely, accompanied by proCHW Fatoumata. Today, she expresses her gratitude.
